Does SuperHumanizer bypass GPTZero?

This is a different question from the Turnitin one, and the difference is worth stating first.

When we asked whether SuperHumanizer bypasses Turnitin, the vendor’s own answer was that it does not consider Turnitin a common detector and never trained against it. GPTZero is the opposite case. It is named, by the vendor, as a tool the product was built and tested against:

Why the missing screenshot matters more here

With Turnitin, every vendor in this market has an excuse: Turnitin sells no individual licences and shows students no AI report, so nobody outside an institution can produce a genuine screenshot.

GPTZero removes that excuse entirely. Anyone can paste up to 10,000 characters into gptzero.me right now with no account and no payment. A free account raises the per-scan limit to 150,000 characters with a 10,000-word monthly quota. Paid tiers start at $9.99 a month.

A vendor that built its product against GPTZero, ran internal tests against GPTZero, and advertises a bypass rate could have published a screenshot in the time it takes to make coffee. SuperHumanizer publishes none.

It is also worth knowing what a genuine current GPTZero result looks like, so you can judge anyone else’s screenshot: it shows a three-class classification (human, AI or mixed), a confidence category rather than a bare percentage, a probability breakdown across all three classes, and sentence-by-sentence highlighting. An image showing only “X% AI”, or one displaying perplexity and burstiness, is either fabricated or dates to roughly 2023.

Three claims for one property, and the only one with a stated method is the smallest. Eleven samples is not a benchmark; it is a smoke test. And grading partly with the vendor’s own detector means part of the result measures agreement between two products from the same company.

Note the direction of the discrepancy too. The disclosed test produced up to 95%. The homepage advertises 97%. The number went up after the methodology was left behind.

What do users actually report?

The two most detailed organic reports both describe the tool failing against detectors it was explicitly built against.

In May 2026, a poster reported Super Ultra output scoring 18.1% AI on ZeroGPT and 49% human on GPTZero, and published the source text. Forty-nine percent human is not a pass; it is a coin flip that a marker would read as suspicious.

In August 2026, another wrote that the humanizer “does not pass ai detectors (zerogpt, originality, gptzero) anymore”, posting a sample that came back “100% ai detected even after humanizing.”

Both concern the exact detectors named in the vendor’s development disclosure. That is the least favourable place for a tool to be reported failing.

Methodology. This page reports no first-party test. On 3 September 2026 we fetched superhumanizer.ai’s homepage, pricing, how-it-works, about, contact, terms and privacy pages and grepped each for “GPTZero”; the site has no blog, FAQ or sitemap. We read every r/SuperHumanizer thread mentioning GPTZero and quote the vendor account verbatim. We grepped the raw HTML of GPTZero’s own February 2026 paper (arXiv:2602.13042v1), Pangram’s DAMAGE paper and Pangram’s August 2025 benchmark for SuperHumanizer by name. GPTZero’s access limits and result-UI behaviour are quoted from its own FAQ, developers page and technical paper, each dated. Where a source has a commercial stake, we say so.

Has GPTZero tested it?

No — and unlike Turnitin, GPTZero does name names.

Appendix M of GPTZero’s own February 2026 paper lists nine bypass services by name. SuperHumanizer is not among them. It is also absent from Pangram’s DAMAGE paper and from Pangram’s August 2025 benchmark.

Read that table carefully, because it is easy to misread. The column is headed “bypassing ability on naive AI detectors” — it rates those nine tools against weak detectors, not against GPTZero. GPTZero’s own caption claims the opposite for itself: “These methods are all ineffective against GPTZero due to the four-tiered red teaming approach.”

That paper is also a GPTZero preprint, not peer-reviewed work, and GPTZero has an obvious interest in the result.

How good is GPTZero, actually?

Worth knowing, because it cuts against both sides here.

GPTZero’s own FAQ concedes: “Our classifier is not trained to identify AI-generated text after it has been heavily modified after generation.” Its developers page simultaneously claims a “Paraphraser Shield” means “even if AI content has been altered to look more human-like, GPTZero can detect it.” Both statements are currently published.

The two leading detector vendors publish flatly opposite numbers. GPTZero’s paper reports 93.5% recall on 1,000 texts run through nine bypasser services, putting Pangram at 49.7%. Pangram’s DAMAGE paper reports GPTZero at 60.04% on humanized text, and 34.53% at GPTZero’s own default threshold. Each vendor’s benchmark shows that vendor winning.

The one third-party figure, from Russell, Karpinska and Iyyer, is widely quoted as “GPTZero catches only 46% of humanized text” — but that is one cell of one table, n=30, and the “humanizer” was a research prompt the authors wrote themselves, not a commercial tool. In the same table GPTZero scored 100% on paraphrased text and 85.3% overall at a 0.7% false positive rate. We flag this because the 46% figure circulates constantly in vendor marketing without those qualifiers.

What should you take from this?

SuperHumanizer has a real claim to being built for this fight and no evidence that it wins it. The vendor named GPTZero as a development target, disclosed a test of eleven samples, advertised a higher number than that test produced, published no screenshot of a detector anyone can use for free, and disclaimed detection outcomes in its terms.

Its users, meanwhile, report GPTZero returning 49% human and 100% AI on humanized output.

The practical point is that you can settle this yourself in two minutes, for nothing, which is not true of Turnitin. Paste the output into gptzero.me before you rely on it — and remember the detector is imperfect in both directions.

If your real worry is being wrongly flagged on your own writing, keep your drafting history — it costs nothing and it survives a detector being wrong. It matters most for the writers detectors treat worst: ESL writers and AI detection and false positives for neurodivergent students. Check before you submit with the best pre-submission check and the Turnitin self-check, and strip the obvious tells by hand first via what to remove before using an AI humanizer.
